These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Tyne macOS application (the "App"), its optional online features, paid plans, and the tyne.io website (together, the "Services"). By downloading, installing, or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
Tyne is a menu-bar dictation app for Macs with Apple Silicon running macOS 15 or later. You speak, and Tyne transcribes your voice on your Mac and inserts the text at your cursor in the app you are using. Tyne can also save spoken notes to an encrypted vault on your Mac, and, if you ask it to, create reminders and calendar events.
Transcription and cleanup run on your device. Some optional features use the network, such as connecting your own cloud AI provider key, account and licence checks, and syncing settings between your Macs. These are described on our Features and Privacy pages.
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to use the Services. Some features and all paid plans need an account. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at support@tyne.io if you think your account has been compromised.
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on Macs you own or control, for your personal use or internal business use, subject to these Terms and your plan.
You may not: copy, modify, or distribute the App; reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble it except where applicable law expressly permits this despite this restriction; remove proprietary notices; circumvent licensing, plan limits, or billing; resell or sublicense the Services; or use the Services to build a competing product.
Tyne and its software, design, and branding belong to us and our licensors. These Terms do not give you any ownership rights in them.
To work, the App asks macOS for Microphone and Accessibility access. It may also ask for Calendar and Reminders access if you use those actions. You choose whether to grant these permissions and can withdraw them in System Settings at any time. Some features stop working without them.
Tyne inserts text by placing it on the pasteboard and sending a paste command to the frontmost app. It is designed to refuse password fields and to copy text to the clipboard instead of pasting when modifier keys are held. You are still responsible for checking where text is inserted before you send, submit, or save it.
You keep all rights to what you dictate and to the transcripts, notes, and other content you create with Tyne ("Your Content").
Audio is transcribed on your Mac and is not uploaded to us. When you use an optional online feature, you grant us a limited, worldwide licence to process only the Content that feature needs (for example, settings synced between your Macs), and only for the purpose of providing, securing, and supporting that feature. We do not sell Your Content, and we do not use it to train our own AI models. See the Privacy page for details.
Tyne stores your vault as an encrypted database on your Mac. The encryption key is created on your Mac and kept in your macOS Keychain. We do not have a copy of your key or your vault and cannot recover either for you. If you lose your Mac, erase your Keychain, or delete the vault, your data may be permanently lost.
You are responsible for backing up your Mac and your data. Backups and folder-sync tools you choose to use may copy your data to other places, and those copies are governed by those services, not by us.
Laws in many places require consent before recording or transcribing a conversation. If you use Tyne in a meeting, on a call, or anywhere other people can be heard, you are solely responsible for telling them and getting any consent the law requires. Tyne records only while you choose to capture, and it is not intended for recording people without their knowledge.
Speech recognition and AI cleanup can make mistakes: wrong words, missed words, changed meaning, or text inserted in the wrong place. Reminders and calendar events that Tyne creates from speech can be wrong too. Review Tyne's output before you rely on it, send it, or act on it.
Do not rely on Tyne for medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, or emergency purposes. Output from AI features may be similar for different users.
Tyne tries to detect and remove things that look like credentials, such as API keys and tokens, before text is stored or sent. This filtering is best-effort and cannot catch every secret, especially one that is misheard or spelled out. Do not dictate passwords, payment card numbers, or other secrets. You are responsible for any sensitive information you choose to dictate.
Tyne offers a Free plan and paid plans, such as Plus and Pro, and per-seat Team plans. Current features and prices are listed on our Pricing page. We may change prices for future billing periods, and we will tell you before a change applies to your subscription.
Payments are handled by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record, which also handles applicable taxes. We never see your full card details. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
You can cancel at any time. When you cancel, your plan stops renewing and you keep paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for. All payments are final and non-refundable. Cancelling does not entitle you to a refund for the current period. See our Refund Policy for full details, including what happens if you were charged in error.
If your plan lets you connect your own AI provider key, text you send through it goes to that provider under your account and their privacy terms, not ours. You are responsible for that key, for the provider's charges, and for following the provider's terms. Features that use the key may stop working if it is invalid, revoked, rate-limited, or unpaid.
The Services rely on third parties, including Apple's macOS, open-source speech-recognition models and libraries, AI providers, hosting and authentication providers, and Dodo Payments. These are subject to their own terms and availability. We are not responsible for their outages, changes, or policies. Open-source components are licensed under their own licences, which take precedence for those components.
You agree not to use the Services to break the law; to record, monitor, or harass anyone; to infringe anyone's rights; to attempt to access systems or data without authorisation; to interfere with or overload our servers; or to get around usage limits or security measures.
Tyne is under active development. Beta and preview features are provided "as is", may be unstable, and may change or be removed. We may release updates that add, change, or remove features. We aim to keep our online features available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service and may suspend them for maintenance or security reasons.
You may stop using Tyne and delete the App at any time. We may suspend or end your access to the Services, including your account and online features, if you breach these Terms, fail to pay, create a security risk, or where the law requires it. When your licence ends, you must stop using the App. Sections 6 to 10 and 17 to 22 survive termination.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT TRANSCRIPTS OR AI OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE, THAT TEXT WILL BE INSERTED WHERE YOU INTEND, OR THAT YOUR DATA WILL NOT BE LOST.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL TYNE, ITS DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES.
OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY UNDER THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE TOTAL FEES YOU PAID TO US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (USD 100).
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Tyne from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the Services, Your Content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right, including recording or transcribing people without the consent required by law.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will change the "Last Updated" date above, and for material changes we will give reasonable notice through the App, by email, or on this website. If you keep using the Services after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. The courts located in Goa, India shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
