Getting started.

From download to your first dictated sentence. You need an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later.

Setup

Five steps.

  1. 01

    Install

Tyne is in beta. Request access, then open the download and drag Tyne into Applications. It is signed and notarized, and runs from the menu bar.

  2. 02

    Grant permissions

On first launch, allow Microphone so Tyne can hear you, and Accessibility so it can type into other apps. Calendar and Reminders are only requested if you use those actions.

  3. 03

    Let the model download

The speech model (WhisperKit large-v3, about 626 MB) downloads once to ~/Library/Application Support/Tyne/Models/. After that, transcription works offline.

  4. 04

    Dictate

Click into any text field, press ⌥ Space and speak. A floating pill shows Tyne is listening; when you finish, the text is inserted once at your cursor, as a single undo step.

  5. 05

    Capture instead of typing

Start with a capture phrase, such as “log it” or “note this”, and the sentence is saved to your vault instead of typed. Ordinary sentences, like “log in to the server”, still type normally.

Troubleshooting

When it doesn't type.

Nothing appears where I am typing

Check System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility and make sure Tyne is switched on. If you just granted it, quit and reopen Tyne.

The text went to my clipboard instead

That is deliberate. Tyne will not paste into password fields, or while Shift, Control or Option is held. Press ⌘V yourself when you are ready.

Tyne does not hear me

Check System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone, and confirm the input device you expect is selected in Sound settings.

I want it fully offline

It already is. Transcription and cleanup both run on your Mac. The only exception is a cloud key you add yourself on Pro, so leave that off.

Your files

Where things live.

To remove Tyne completely, quit it, delete the app, remove these folders, and delete the in.tyne.desktop item from Keychain Access. Deleting the key makes the vault unreadable for good.
